Shelley I. Smith currently serves as Vice-President of the Los Angeles City Employees Retirement System (LACERS) Board of Administration.

She has been an elected trustee of the System since 1994. She currently holds the title of Assistant City Attorney for the City of Los Angeles and is President of the Los Angeles City Attorneys Association. Ms. Smith also served for over fifteen years on the Los Angeles Deferred Compensation Board, the City's voluntary defined contribution plan. Ms. Smith is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Council of Institutional Investors and Treasurer of the Pacific Pension Institute. She also serves on the Executive Committee of the Labor & Employment Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

Ms. Smith is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles , and holds a Juris Doctorate from the UCLA School of Law.
