Shelley Smith Sworn In to the LACERS Board
Shelley
I. Smith was re-elected to one of the two active Member seats
of the Los Angeles City Employees' Retirement System (LACERS)
Board of Administration. She received more than 50% of the votes
from the LACERS Board election held on June 11, 2004. On August
10, 2004, she was sworn in to her third term with the LACERS Board
by City Clerk J. Michael Carey.
Smith
is an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Los Angeles and
is President of the Los Angeles City Attorneys Association. She
chairs the Los Angeles Deferred Compensation Board (the City's
voluntary defined contribution plan) and is a member of the Board
of Directors of the Council of Institutional Investors and Treasurer
of the Pacific Pension Institute. Smith also serves on the Executive
Committee of the Labor & Employment Law Section of the Los
Angeles County Bar Association.
The LACERS Board consists of seven commissioners - four appointed
by the Mayor, one elected by retired employees, and two elected
by active Members. Each board member serves a five-year term.
In addition to attending Board meetings twice per month, each
Commissioner serves on at least one committee.
Smith
currently serves as President of the LACERS Board and has been
an elected trustee of the System for over ten years. LACERS' pension
fund has assets over $7.7 billion and administers retirement and
retiree health benefits for 26,000 employees and 14,000 retirees.
