Governor to Postpone Pension Reform Initiative

Governor Schwarzenegger announced on April 7, 2005 that he would postpone placing the pension reform initiative on the special election ballot because the issue is "clouded by worries" regarding death and disability benefits for police, firefighters, and public safety professionals. Schwarzenegger stated that he and Assemblyman Keith Richman, author of the pension reform proposal (ACA 5) being backed by the Governor, will "improve the language and put our plan on the June 2006 ballot" if a compromise cannot be reached in the legislature.

The initiative could still appear on a ballot in the near future. LACERS will continue to monitor this issue.
