Domestic
Partnerships
LACERS provides death benefits coverage for qualified domestic partners
of active members and lifetime survivorship benefits for qualified
domestic partners of retired members. However, domestic partners are
not covered by the same community property or inheritance laws that
protect married couples. If you want your domestic partner to be eligible
for lifetime survivorship benefits, you must file a Declaration of
Domestic Partnership with LACERS and you must designate your domestic
partner as the sole person to receive your contributions in the event
of your death. The Declaration of Domestic Partnership alone will not
entitle your partner to receive these benefits.
