LACERS Holds 2005 Emerging Broker Dealer Forum
On October 6th, LACERS held its 2005 Investment Manager & Emerging
Brokers Conference in Los Angeles. LACERS developed the |

an opportunity for its investment managers to meet with
emerging brokerage firms and dealers for the purpose
of: |

- Establishing an educational exchange,
- Expanding the competitive landscape for new brokerage services,
- Understanding LACERS’ brokerage study and data results,
- Creating new business opportunities of mutual benefit between LACERS, its investment managers and emerging brokers through LACERS’ Emerging Brokerage Program.

During the morning session, LACERS General Manager Robert Aguallo, Jr., LACERS Board Vice President Shelley I. Smith and Terry Toth, President of Northern Trust Global Investments, gave the opening introductions.

Myrna M. Rivera from Consultiva, Inc. presented the overview and findings of LACERS’ survey
on |
emerging brokers. And Allan
Emkin from Pension Consulting Alliance discussed the objectives,
execution and monitoring procedures of the LACERS Emerging Brokerage
Program. |

The afternoon session consisted
of roundtable discussions by asset class between LACERS investment
managers and the emerging brokers and dealers. The conference emphasized
LACERS’ commitment to support the development of innovative initiatives
in securities brokerage, which enlarges the landscape of providers
and increases competition among brokerage firms. |

Eighteen of twenty representatives from LACERS’ investment funds attended the event along with 39 emerging |

brokers and dealers. The event was underwritten by Northern Trust. |
