Sharing The Costs
Many of our Members may be concerned with the results of this
year’s renewal process. With health care costs increasing every
year, it becomes more of a challenge for LACERS to pay all the
costs without your help. LACERS will be paying about 93% of the
overall medical costs by increasing your maximum medical subsidy
from $928 to $983. You will experience your share of the costs by
increased retirement paycheck deductions (these will be minimal for
most Members) and co-pays. We understand that individual Members
will be affected differently by our decisions and their individual plan
selections, but we have to consider the entire LACERS membership
and the sustainability of health benefits now and into the future. While
many organizations are trimming their health benefits or doing away
with them altogether, LACERS continues to offer you the same benefit
options you have enjoyed in the past.
Co-pay increases are one way to reduce health care costs, but
LACERS does not intend this to be our only strategy. Under the Board’s
guidance, we are currently exploring other options and developing new
strategies to help manage future medical costs so that you and future
retirees can continue to experience affordable health coverage.
