Applying for Retirement
Applying for Retirement
1. Sign Up for a Retirement Orientation
The Retirement Orientation is an in-person, group meeting designed to educate and prepare Members who are ready to apply for retirement. This session gives you the opportunity to learn about important decisions you will need to make as you prepare for retirement. Retirement and health counselors will be available to assist you with your application, answer your questions, and help ensure a smooth transition into retirement.
Withdrawing or Amending an Application
Your application for retirement may be withdrawn from the Retirement Application Portal (RAP) up to, but no later than, midnight the day before your retirement effective date.
Please contact your assigned retirement counselor prior to your retirement effective date for options if an amendment to your application is needed.
Disability Retirement
If you become disabled while an active Member, you may be eligible for a Disability Retirement. Your disabling condition need not be job-related, but it must prevent you from performing your regular job duties. A Disability Retirement Allowance is generally paid as one-third of your Final Compensation. A Disability Retirement Allowance is not tax-free.
