JULY PAYCHECKS REFLECT THE 2025 COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENT

The LACERS Board of Administration has approved the maximum allowable Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for eligible LACERS retired members and beneficiaries. The approved adjustments are 3.0% for Tier 1 and Tier 1 Enhanced Members, and 2.0% for Tier 3 Members. Allowable increases will be included in the July retirement allowance payment. For more information on the 2025 COLA, visit lacers.org/cost-living-adjustments-cola.

YOUR LACERS BENEFIT AND THE IMPACTS OF ADDITIONAL INCOME

Have you ever wondered how getting a job or earning additional income might impact your LACERS monthly payment? The good news is that your LACERS retirement allowance will not be affected or reduced based on earnings from a job or other sources of income.

Does my Social Security benefit affect my LACERS monthly payment? No. Having a Social Security benefit does not affect your LACERS monthly payment.

Does my LACERS retirement benefit affect my Social Security benefit? More good news! No. On January 5, 2025, the Social Security Fairness Act was signed into law, repealing the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO), which had previously reduced Social Security payments for many public sector retirees and their surviving spouses. With this repeal, individuals who are entitled to a Social Security benefit no longer face those reductions.

Earning additional income does not impact your LACERS benefit. However, it is important to consider the tax implications of your total annual income. If you have questions about the tax implications for your earnings, please consult with your tax advisor.
