Scheduling a Counseling Appointment

Scheduling Your Retirement Counseling Appointment

When to Schedule Your Counseling Appointment

You must call to register for your retirement counseling session no earlier than 90 days before your  retirement date. Your retirement counseling session will typically be scheduled 30-60 days before your retirement date and is your opportunity to speak with a retirement expert.

Retirement Packet

Once you have scheduled your counseling session, LACERS will send you the following information and forms to be completed and returned with you at your retirement counseling appointment:

  • Confirmation of Appointment
  • Retirement Benefits Estimate Letter
  • Member Information Sheet
  • Direct Deposit Authorization Form
  • W-9 – Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification
  • Checklist for New Retirees

What to Bring to Your Retirement Counseling Appointment

In addition to the forms that were mailed to you in the retirement packet, you must also provide the required documents for yourself and your spouse or domestic partner where applicable.

It is recommended that you make a list of any questions or issues that you would like to discuss with your retirement counselor and bring it to your appointment. All of your retirement questions should be answered so you feel comfortable with your decisions.
