Action Required RE: Measure FF Transfer

We are writing to highlight an important difference in disability retirement benefits provided by the Los Angeles Fire and Police Pensions (LAFPP), and the Los Angeles City Employees’ Retirement System (LACERS), which may affect your decision to transfer to LAFPP Tier 6 or to remain a LACERS member.  

LAFPP: Under LAFPP’s Plan provisions, if you retire on a disability pension and you have previously received workers’ compensation payments, then your disability pension allowance will be reduced by the exact amount of any workers’ compensation payments you have received or continue to receive during your career, as discussed in the Tier 6 Summary Plan Description. This requirement does not apply to service pensions. This Los Angeles City Charter requirement also applies to survivor pensions if the survivor received a workers’ compensation death benefit and the member did not retire on a service pension.

LACERS: Under LACERS’ Plan provisions, if you retire on a disability pension and you have previously received workers’ compensation payments, then your disability pension is not reduced due to any workers’ compensation payments received. The Los Angeles City Charter does not require this reduction for LACERS members who had workers’ compensation awards.

If you already submitted your Measure FF Transfer Election Form and you elected to transfer to LAFPP Tier 6, please confirm your decision by the January 9, 2026 deadline:

You must affirm or revoke your decision to transfer to LAFPP Tier 6 by completing the Measure FF Election Confirmation Form. If LACERS does not receive a response from you by the January 9, 2026 election deadline, then your failure to respond will be deemed a decision to keep your current election.
