LACERS Retired Members Update for December
IMPORTANT: UPCOMING HOLIDAY HOURS
LACERS’ front desk will be closed, and the 800 number will be offline from December 22nd – January 1st. LACERS will continue to reply to incoming emails and respond to voicemails during this time except on December 25th and January 1st in observance of the holidays.
Please keep these dates in mind and plan ahead if you want to speak with a LACERS representative by phone. We look forward to continuing to assist our Members and wish everyone a wonderful holiday season!

LACERS RESUMES NORMAL OPERATING HOURS AT ITS FRONT DESK
LACERS has resumed its front desk’s normal hours of operation: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. No appointment is needed. As a reminder, we offer more ways to serve you, including phone and email assistance, virtual sessions, and Secure Document Upload for submitting forms safely.

IMPORTANT: THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY HOURS
The Thanksgiving holiday is quickly approaching, the LACERS Front Desk will be closed and the LACERS 800 phone number will not be in service from November 20 through November 22. Members can still reach LACERS for urgent matters either by leaving a voicemail at (800) 779-8328 or by emailing us at lacers.services@lacers.org. LACERS will be closed on November 23 and 24 for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

LACERS Retired Members Update for November
LACERS OPEN ENROLLMENT ENDS TODAY
Today, November 16 is the last day to make Open Enrollment changes to your LACERS health and dental plans. Open Enrollment changes made by today will become effective on January 1, 2024. Unless you have a qualifying event, the next opportunity to change your LACERS health or dental plan will be next year during the Open Enrollment period for 2025.

REMINDER: LACERS 2024 OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD ENDS NOVEMBER 16
There’s still time to make changes to your LACERS coverage for next year! LACERS’ Open Enrollment period runs from October 16 – November 16. The Open Enrollment period is an opportunity to enroll in a health or dental plan, change your plan, or add dependents, with changes becoming effective on January 1, 2024. Open Enrollment packets were mailed in early October and are also available online at lacers.org/enrollment.
Medicare Part B Premium for 2024
MEDICARE PART B PREMIUMS FOR 2024
As a reminder, all Retired Members and their dependents who are eligible for Medicare and enrolled in a LACERS plan are required to enroll in Medicare Part B. Retired Members enrolled in Medicare Parts A & B with at least 10 years of Service who are enrolled in a LACERS Senior medical plan or participate in the Medical Premium Reimbursement Program (MPRP) are eligible for a reimbursement of their standard (basic) Medicare Part B premium.

HOW DOES DIVORCE AFFECT YOUR RETIREMENT?
Members may not realize that a dissolution of their marriage or domestic partnership can impact their LACERS retirement benefits. If you and your spouse or state-registered domestic partner are considering this course of action, you should consider the potential effects.

LACERS OPEN ENROLLMENT HAS BEGUN
LACERS is currently accepting applications for health plan changes, the addition of eligible dependents, and new enrollments until November 16, 2023. Changes made during this period will become effective on January 1, 2024. If you do not want to change plans or add dependents, you do not need to take any action; your current LACERS health coverage will continue for the 2024 plan year.

IN-PERSON PLANNING FOR RETIREMENT SEMINAR OCTOBER 19
Many retirees comment that their City career flew by. As an Active LACERS Member, are you ready for what tomorrow may bring (including retirement)? Now’s your chance to take a proactive approach toward retirement and attend an upcoming in-person Planning for Retirement Seminar at The California Endowment on Thursday, October 19 at 9:00 a.m. Complimentary parking and light snacks will be provided.

LACERS Retired Members Update for September
LACERS OPEN ENROLLMENT IS OCTOBER 16 – NOVEMBER 16
LACERS will accept applications for health plan changes, addition of eligible dependents, and new enrollments from October 16, 2023, to November 16, 2023. Changes made during this period will become effective on January 1, 2024.
LACERS recommends reviewing the Open Enrollment material to stay informed of your benefit options. If you do not want to change plans or add dependents, you do not need to take action; your current LACERS health coverage will continue for the 2024 plan year unless otherwise noted in your materials.
The 2024 Open Enrollment packet will be mailed in early October to your address in LACERS system as of August 21, 2023. The U.S. Postal Service does not forward the packet even if you have done a “Change of Address” or “Forwarding Request.”
For Members over the age of 65 or Members who have dependents with Medicare Parts A and B, the Open Enrollment packet will consist of the 2024 Open Enrollment Statement, 2024 Health Benefits Guide, and the 2024 Open Enrollment Overview.
For Members who are under age 65 or enrolled only in a LACERS Dental plan or a Medical Reimbursement Program (MPRP) participant or are not enrolled in a LACERS plan, the packet will consist of the 2024 Open Enrollment Statement and the 2024 Open Enrollment Overview.
